Hiking through Collserola

Collserola is the Natural Park that lies behind the hill of Tibidabo, just inland from Barcelona. After only 15 minutes on the train, you are amidst the lush greenery of the Catalan countryside. The green hiking paths of Collserola lead you along the house of the prominent Catalan poet Jacint Verdaguer, Norman Fosters impressive telecommunicationtower, forgotten wells, the ruins of a fort, the velodrome of the Olympic Games of 1992 and breathtaking views over the cluster of the city.  On a clear day you can see Montserrat and the snow-peaked Pyrenees on the horizon.  There are plenty of places and opportunities for a well–earned rest. If you wish, you can also have a restorative lunch at a converted farmhouse on the way that serves hearty Catalan food, including the famed calçots (giant grilled spring onions). Or, if you prefer, there are a number of spots that are ideal for a picnic.

Practical details: we take the train (15 min) from Plaça Catalunya to the Collserola Natural Park. The hike will take +/-3 hours, depending upon your speed and fitness. Stout shoes or boots should be worn.
