Barcelona through the movies

The city of Barcelona has attracted numerous leading film directors, all of whom have depicted Barcelona in a completely different way. With Spanish directors, this depiction was often a reflection of their time: under Franco’s dictatorship, films were often “instructional”, showing cinemagoers how to be “good Spaniards”. After his death, Pedro Almodovar’s avant garde works conveyed the feeling of liberation, “anything goes”, nothing was taboo…

More recently, Woody Allen’s Vicky Cristina Barcelona portrays an idyllic Barcelona: the conflictive areas are conveniently ignored. This in contrast with the documentary En Construcción and the powerful Biutiful, which show a darker side, a different reality in Barcelona.

Your guide, an actress herself, will take your hand on a journey through time via the films shot in the city, talking about the films, their links with history and the settings, bring them alive through scene recreations, songs and anecdotes. The focus is not only on the content of the films themselves, but also the history of the places serving as their backdrop and the people who lived and worked there.

To complete the sensory experience, not only your eyes and ears will be the protagonists: your nose will also play a role, as we take in the film The Perfume as pretext for visiting an artisanal soap boutique.

Lastly, to help capture the glitter and glamour of the silver screen, we end the tour in a Gothic palace, where we can sip a cocktail on the roof terrace.
